WhatsApp New Safety Feature: Get Scam Alerts Before Chatting with Unknown Numbers
WhatsApp Scam Alert Feature: WhatsApp is introducing a powerful new security feature designed to protect users from online scams. The latest update will display a warning whenever you receive a message from an unknown phone number, helping users identify suspicious chats before they respond.
RJ Kesari Tech Desk: The new feature is expected to roll out for both Android and iPhone (iOS) users, adding another layer of protection against fraudsters and cybercriminals.
WhatsApp Introduces New Scam Protection
WhatsApp already offers several privacy and security features, including end-to-end encryption, chat locks, and privacy controls. Now, Meta-owned WhatsApp is expanding its security tools with a new alert system aimed at reducing scam attempts through unknown contacts.
According to reports, users will receive a warning screen before opening a conversation with someone who is not in their contact list.
What Happens When You Receive a Message from an Unknown Number?
As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will display a detailed warning whenever a message arrives from an unfamiliar number.
The alert will provide useful information, including:
- The country where the phone number is registered.
- A confirmation that the sender is not part of any mutual WhatsApp group.
- A reminder that scammers may try to steal personal information, passwords, OTPs, or request money.
Users will then be presented with two options:
- Continue to Chat
- Cancel Chat
This gives users a chance to think before interacting with potentially suspicious contacts.
How This Feature Helps Prevent WhatsApp Scams
Online scams through messaging apps continue to rise, with fraudsters often pretending to be bank officials, delivery agents, government representatives, or even friends and relatives.
The new WhatsApp safety alert encourages users to verify unknown contacts before replying, reducing the chances of becoming a victim of phishing attacks, financial fraud, or identity theft.
More New WhatsApp Features in Development
Alongside this security update, WhatsApp is testing several new features to improve the overall user experience.
Some of the upcoming features include:
- A dedicated Voice Note widget that can be added directly to your phone's home screen for faster access.
- View Once Text Messages, allowing users to send disappearing text messages that can only be read once.
- Additional improvements focused on privacy, messaging, and user convenience.
