Vodafone has recently launched the new Number Verify 2.0 technology in three countries, today we will explain to you what this new technology is and how it helps in mobile verification.

Vodafone news

RJ Kesari News Desk: Mobile numbers are most commonly used for registration, login, account recovery, and transaction confirmation. OTPs are also received when logging into accounts, but Vodafone has now taken technology a step further to change this verification process. Vodafone recently launched Number Verify 2.0 globally. This technology will eliminate the hassle of OTPs.

How the technology works

Number Verify 2.0 technology provides a simpler, more secure, and easier way to verify a user's mobile phone number without a one-time passcode (OTP).

It uses the mobile network to verify that the user's phone number is associated with the SIM and device, both in the app and on the web.

The experience is simple: the user simply provides consent, and their phone number is immediately shared with the service provider, such as a bank or retailer.

Mobile numbers are the most commonly used method for registration, login, account recovery, and transaction confirmation, yet the industry's default verification method hasn't kept pace with modern fraud threats or user expectations.

SMS OTPs only confirm that someone entered the code sent to the mobile number. They do not prove whether the OTP request was made by the customer or an unknown person. This leaves businesses and consumers vulnerable to phishing and social engineering, where automated bots trigger large volumes of OTP requests.

What does the API Director say?

Johanna Wood, Director of Network APIs at Vodafone , says that while the OTP system over SMS has been the default for over a decade,

it was never designed for today's threat environment. Number Verify 2.0 changes this, giving developers a way to verify phone numbers that is fast, secure, and easy for users.

Where has this technology launched? Vodafone's new technology has just been launched in Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK. Number Verify 2.0 is now available, rolling out first to Android devices.
