Spotify India Update: Spotify discontinued the cheapest plan, now premium subscription will be available for this much rupees
Launched in November last year, Spotify's Premium Lite plan was widely discussed because it offered ad-free music at a low price. The sudden disappearance of this plan has raised questions among users. Meanwhile, the company has attempted to offer new benefits to customers by reducing the price of its Standard and Student plans.
Audio streaming platform Spotify has made a major change to its subscription plans in India. The company has removed its cheapest Spotify Premium Lite plan from its website and mobile app,
leading to speculation that it has been discontinued. The company has also revised the prices of other premium plans. Significantly, some plans have become cheaper, but their features have not been reduced.
Spotify Lite plan disappears in six months
Spotify launched the Premium Lite plan in India in November 2025. It was considered the company's cheapest premium plan, priced at ₹139 per month. This plan offered ad-free music streaming and high audio quality up to 160 kbps.
However, this feature was only available for one account. The company has now completely removed this plan from its website and mobile app, leading to speculation that Spotify has discontinued it. The company has not yet clarified whether existing subscribers will be transitioned to other plans.
Spotify Premium Standard is now cheaper
Spotify has also made a significant change to the price of its Premium Standard plan. Previously, this plan was available for ₹199 per month, but now its price has been reduced to ₹139 per month.
New users will receive this plan for ₹99 for the first three months. Notably, this was the same price as the Premium Lite plan.
The Standard plan offers ad-free music and audiobook streaming. It also supports audio quality up to 320 kbps. This means users will now receive better sound quality at a lower price.
Student plans also become cheaper, features remain the same
Spotify has also reduced the price of its student plan. Previously, this plan cost ₹99 per month, but now its price has been reduced to ₹69. The company is offering the same price to new users for the first two months.
Despite the price reduction, the plan's features remain unchanged. Student users will continue to enjoy ad-free music,
audiobook access, and high-quality audio streaming up to 320 kbps. The price and features of the company's most expensive Spotify Premium Platinum plan remain unchanged.
