Haryana Property Tax News: 1,800 Sonipat Defaulters May Face Property Sealing After Interest Waiver Ends
The Haryana government has ended the property tax interest waiver scheme. Around 1,800 property owners in Sonipat may now face notices and property sealing if dues remain unpaid.
RJ Kesari News Desk: Property owners in Haryana's Sonipat have been put on alert after the interest waiver scheme on pending property tax dues officially ended. Municipal authorities have now started preparing for strict action against defaulters, including issuing notices and sealing properties if outstanding taxes are not cleared.
Officials say nearly 1,800 property owners who owe significant amounts in property tax are likely to receive notices in the coming days.
Interest Waiver Scheme Has Ended
To encourage taxpayers to clear pending dues, the government had introduced a one-time relief scheme, allowing property owners to pay their outstanding property tax without any interest penalty.
The scheme remained valid until June 30.
With the deadline now over, interest will once again be charged on unpaid property tax as per the applicable rules.
Authorities have advised property owners to clear their dues at the earliest to avoid additional financial burden.
1,800 Property Owners on the Defaulters' List
According to municipal records, the Sonipat Municipal Council has identified around 1,800 property owners with pending property tax exceeding ₹50,000 each.
These taxpayers are expected to receive official notices shortly.
If the dues remain unpaid even after receiving notices, the civic body is expected to initiate property sealing proceedings under the applicable municipal regulations.
More Than 34,000 Property IDs Registered
Municipal Council data shows that Sonipat currently has over 34,000 registered Property IDs.
Between April and June of the current financial year, the council collected nearly ₹2 crore in property tax revenue.
Despite these collections, officials say a significant number of property owners have still not deposited their pending taxes.
