🕒 The 157-Km Stretch: Slashing Travel Time in Half

The upcoming Vadodara-Mumbai stretch spans a total length of 157 kilometers and is being constructed with an estimated investment of around ₹24,000 crore.

To ensure rapid execution, the project was divided into seven distinct construction packages:

  • Five construction packages have already been fully completed.

  • Work on the remaining two packages is currently moving at an aggressive pace to meet the August deadline.

🛣️ One of India’s Grandest Infrastructure Marvels

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a massive 1,386-kilometer-long, 8-lane access-controlled greenfield expressway constructed at a total footprint cost of approximately ₹95,000 crore.

Upon full completion of the entire corridor, the total driving time between the national capital, Delhi, and the financial capital, Mumbai, will drop from 24 hours to just 12 hours. The expressway seamlessly carves its path through six major Indian states: Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

🗓️ Timeline of Progress: Completed Expressway Sections

Several crucial milestones of this network have already been opened incrementally over the last few years:

Date Opened Sector Details Length
February 12, 2023 Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot Section (Rajasthan) 246 km
February 22, 2024 Vadodara-Bharuch Section (Gujarat) 87 km
June 5, 2026 Kim-Ena & Gandeva-Ena Sections (Gujarat) 63.5 km (Combined)

📈 Economic Boost and De-congesting Maharashtra’s Roads

The rollout of the Vadodara-Mumbai corridor will offer massive systemic relief to local commuters and the national economy alike:

  • Traffic Relief: Heavy commuter density on highly congested routes like Thane, Bhiwandi, and Ghodbunder will drop significantly as long-distance transit shifts over to the expressway.

  • Logistics & Trade Pipeline: Freight movement toward the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will become significantly faster. By seamlessly connecting industrial belts in Western and Northern India directly to Mumbai's port networks, the project is primed to attract fresh manufacturing investments, optimize supply chains, and generate a wave of employment opportunities.
