PM Modi's Employment Push: Over 70 Lakh Youth Secure Jobs, ₹2,400 Crore Released to 15 Lakh Beneficiaries
RJ Kesari News Desk: To further encourage job creation, the Prime Minister transferred ₹2,400 crore directly into the bank accounts of around 15 lakh beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The scheme aims to strengthen the country's workforce by supporting first-time job seekers, expanding social security coverage, and promoting formal employment across various sectors. It also focuses on empowering local artisans, skilled workers, and young professionals, while boosting manufacturing, infrastructure development, and grassroots economic growth.
₹2,400 Crore Incentive Released to Promote Employment
Speaking at an official event, PM Modi said that the government has successfully connected more than 70 lakh individuals with employment opportunities under PM-VBRY. As part of the initiative, incentives worth ₹2,400 crore were released to encourage the creation of approximately 15 lakh new jobs across the country.
Launched in August 2025, the scheme was designed to assist first-time employees and improve access to social security benefits. Through the latest DBT transfer, eligible beneficiaries received direct financial support aimed at strengthening employment generation and workforce participation.
70 Lakh New Jobs Created Under PM-VBRY
Highlighting the success of the program, PM Modi stated that nearly 70 lakh new jobs have been created so far under the scheme. An equal number of first-time workers have also been brought under the umbrella of social security benefits, ensuring greater financial protection for India's workforce.
According to the Prime Minister, nearly 20 lakh young employees have completed six months in their first job, while close to 10 lakh beneficiaries have already received incentives after reaching this milestone.
He emphasized that the support offered under the scheme is not merely financial assistance. Instead, it represents the nation's confidence in its youth and recognition of their contribution to India's growth story.
Employment Generation Becomes a National Mission
PM Modi stressed that collaboration between the government, industry, and young workforce is crucial for accelerating job creation. He described the initiative as a reflection of a New India, where industries receive support, young people gain opportunities, and employment generation becomes a shared national objective.
The Prime Minister said that PM-VBRY is not just another government scheme but a strategic effort to bridge the gap between employers and job seekers. Unlike traditional programs that focus on either employees or employers, this initiative offers benefits to both sides simultaneously.
He added that the government stands firmly with young professionals beginning their careers while also encouraging businesses that create new employment opportunities.
Focus on Manufacturing, Startups and Innovation
PM Modi highlighted that over the last twelve years, the government has consistently worked to strengthen multiple avenues of employment. Major emphasis has been placed on sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, innovation, digital economy, space technology, and startups.
Flagship initiatives including Make in India, Vocal for Local, Mission Manufacturing, and efforts to take Indian products to global markets have expanded opportunities for both employment and self-employment.
These initiatives, he said, are helping India build a strong ecosystem for economic growth while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Government Modernising EPFO and Social Security Systems
The Prime Minister also underlined the government's efforts to link employment with security, dignity, and social protection. He said technology is being used extensively to modernize the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), simplify pension services, and improve access to affordable healthcare and health insurance for millions of workers.
These reforms form an important part of the government's broader labour welfare strategy aimed at creating a more secure and efficient employment ecosystem.
Women's Participation in Workforce Increasing
PM Modi acknowledged the growing role of women in India's economic progress. He noted that reforms related to night-shift employment, work-from-home opportunities, and workplace safety measures are helping increase female participation in the workforce.
According to him, empowering women through better employment opportunities is essential for achieving long-term economic growth and social development.
Skilled Talent and Innovation Will Drive Future Growth
The Prime Minister said that the 21st-century economy will be shaped by three key factors: skilled talent, innovation, and quality. Nations that excel in these areas will enjoy the greatest economic opportunities.
He expressed confidence that India possesses tremendous potential in all three sectors and is well-positioned to emerge as a global economic powerhouse in the coming years.
17 Crore Jobs Created Between 2014 and 2024
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that around 17 crore jobs were generated in India between 2014 and 2024, compared to approximately 2.9 crore jobs during the decade before 2014.
He also highlighted India's improving employment indicators, noting that the country's unemployment rate is currently around 3.1%, significantly lower than the global average of 4.8%.
Mandaviya further pointed out that India's employment elasticity between 2017 and 2023 stood at 1.11, indicating strong job creation alongside economic growth.
