RJ Kesari News Desk: This initiative is currently a proposal under consideration, and once it receives final approval, it is expected to be made available nationwide.

Advanced Features: Lighter and Transparent

The upcoming 10kg cylinder is designed to be a major improvement over traditional steel versions, utilizing composite technology. This design offers several practical advantages:

  • Weight Reduction: The cylinder will be approximately 50 percent lighter than traditional steel cylinders, making it significantly easier to lift, carry, and transport to upper floors.

  • Transparent Design: A standout feature of this composite cylinder is its transparent outer body. This allows users to check the remaining gas level directly, eliminating the need for a separate gas gauge and making it easier to plan refills in advance.

  • Delivery Model: Similar to the existing 5kg cylinders, this new 10kg variant is planned to be delivered directly to homes.

Who Stands to Benefit?

According to oil company officials, the 10kg LPG cylinder is specifically targeted at demographics that often struggle with the storage and handling of larger cylinders. The primary beneficiaries include:

  • Migrant workers and students.

  • Tenants and people living in rented accommodations.

  • Street vendors and small food stall or dhaba operators.

  • Small cafe owners.

For these users, managing the standard 19kg commercial cylinder is often cumbersome; this smaller, more portable option is intended to be a far more convenient solution.

Pricing and Market Availability

Regarding the financial aspect, the new cylinder will not be priced at the subsidized rate of domestic kitchen gas. Instead, it will be pegged to commercial LPG pricing.

To ensure widespread availability—particularly in urban centers—the plan suggests that in addition to existing LPG agencies, the new cylinders might also be sold through select retail outlets.

When Can You Expect the Launch?

As of now, government oil companies have not announced an official launch date. The companies are currently in the process of evaluating several critical factors, including:

  • Overall market demand.

  • Safety compliance and standards.

  • Distribution and logistics networks.

A final decision on the rollout will be made once these assessments are complete.
