The landscape of Indian military aviation is experiencing a monumental transformation as the Defence Ministry issues ₹15,000 crore tender to initiate the domestic production of stealth aircraft.
In a strategic move to build an indigenous operational ecosystem, official requests for proposals have been sent to top-tier private defense consortia to drive the highly anticipated AMCA 5th generation fighter jet project forward.
Breaking from decades of tradition, state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been completely excluded from this bidding cycle, signaling a historic pivot toward private sector-led aerospace engineering.
Currently leading the high-stakes selection process are heavyweights like Tata Advanced Systems and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), who are competing alongside other domestic defense consortia to secure the development rights.
The chosen manufacturing entity will collaborate directly with the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) to engineer, construct, and rigorously test five operational prototypes before the armed forces transition into long-term serial manufacturing.
Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence, stealth geometries, internal weapon bays, and super-cruise technology, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft is engineered to firmly position India on par with nations flying the F-35, Su-57, and J-20 platforms.
